Pearled Over

Pulter describes the goddess Aurora as “Pearl’d or’e with odours of the early East” (3). Here is an image of a seventeenth-century woman fashionably sporting pearls around her neck, in her ears, in her hair, and over her dress.

The Countess of Carnarvon wearing a pearl necklace and earrings, and with pearls in her hair and on her dress.
